YOUR BIRTH IS

A SACRED STORY

Documenting the raw, honest, and powerful moments of your birth day. Because seeing your own strength is the best way to process your birth.

PRESERVING THE BLUR OF YOUR BIRTH

So you can focus entirely on meeting your baby.

Whether you are planning a home birth or a hospital delivery, I step into your space with the eyes of an artist and the calm, capable heart of an RN. You handle the incredible work of bringing life into the world, I’ll handle preserving the details you might otherwise miss.

As a mother of four, I know firsthand that birth is a whirlwind. Having these images isn't just about 'remembering.' Seeing the raw power of your body is a vital way to process, heal, and find peace, regardless of how your story unfolds.

A witness to the quiet, profound, and real moments.

Awarded Top 20 Worldwide Best Photographer of the Year

I’m a certified birth photographer and videographer through Birth Becomes You, with additional videography training through Soulful Storytellers. As a former RN (BSN), I’m trained in both the physiology of birth and the art of documenting it. I show up prepared, calm, and deeply respectful of the space you’ve created.

01 | The RN Difference

As a former RN (BSN), I speak the language of the birth room. I understand the monitors, the medical flow, and the quiet cues of your birth team. I’m there to be a calm, capable presence who respects the safety and sanctity of your space above all else.

Your Story, Expertly Held.

02 | Your Maternity is on Me

I don’t want you to have to choose between documenting your pregnancy and your birth. Every birth collection includes a complimentary maternity session. It’s the best way for us to get to know each other before the big day, so that when I walk into your birth space, I’m a familiar, trusted face, not a stranger with a camera.

03 | The All-Inclusive Story

Birth isn't a "posed" session, and I don’t believe in gatekeeping your memories. You receive the full, hand-edited gallery of your birth, every tear, every first look, and every tiny detail. No per image pricing; the whole story belongs to you.

“I’m so glad I found Melanie to photograph my recent birth. She is a true professional, seamless communication, knew how to be unobtrusive in the birth space, captured all the images we asked for. Definitely worth the investment- you can never go back and recapture the moment your baby is born, you only get one chance and I’m so glad we picked Melanie for this task.”

Everything you need to know

I know that bringing a photographer into your birth space is a big decision. Here are the answers to the questions I hear most often from families in Tacoma and JBLM.

  • I am on-call for you 24/7 starting at 37 weeks. You’ll head to the hospital or call your midwife, and you’ll keep me in the loop. I typically arrive when you are in active labor (around 6-7cm) and stay for 1-2 hours after birth to capture those first golden moments, the measurements, and the initial introductions.

  • Your story is valid no matter how it unfolds. If you have a scheduled or emergent C-section, I work with the surgical team to get into the OR. If they won’t allow a photographer, I will hand my camera to your husband and be waiting in the recovery room to document the very first moments you hold your baby. I stay with you through transfers and changes because that is part of your honest story.

  • Only if you want them to be. Birth is incredibly intimate, and I respect your privacy above all else. You will receive a private gallery, and I only share images on my portfolio or social media with your explicit, written permission. You are in total control of what the world sees.

  • Item descriptionNever. This is where my RN background is your biggest asset. I know how to navigate a delivery room, where to stand during a transition, and how to stay out of the way of your doctors and midwives. I am a quiet, calm observer who respects the clinical safety of the room.
